reMARK

July, 2009

Thank you Dave Swanka for representing Region 3 as RVC for the past three years.  Your service to the Region is greatly appreciated.

It’s May and I am taking the liberty of writing this July column because I can, even though I will not officially be your RVC until July 1.  I am proud to represent the greatest region in the United States and I do intend to serve this Region to the very best of my ability.  I promise that I will never again tell you when it is that I am writing my column.  Suffice it to say that it will always be at least a month before the month it appears in your newsletter.  Of course, that presumes that there is room in your newsletter for its inclusion.

I have begun this column while sitting at a restaurant in Battle Creek, Michigan, waiting to have dinner with some Western Michigan Mensans as I travel to the western side of the state to visit friends.  In June, I will be having dinner in Traverse City, Michigan, with Northern Michigan Ms.  I hope to be able to visit with each local group soon.  Many of my visits will be to RGs or in conjunction with some personal trip that I will be taking.  I’ll let you know where I will be via this column so that you can be there, too.  I do hope to meet as many Region 3 Ms as I can.  In that regard, I will be hosting a Meet and Greet at the AMFM AG in Pittsburgh on Friday, July 3, at 10:30 in the morning.  I’ll be at the AMC and ABM meetings, hanging around the Action Desk and various other places during that AG, too.  Do stop by to say hi.  (Dinner was great!)

As my first official RVC visit(s), I hope to have dinner with Western New York Ms and Rochester Area Ms, either together or separately, immediately following the AMFM AG in Pittsburgh on my way to Southeast Michigan’s and my southern and your northern border Canadian AG being held in Ottawa July 10-12.  And I will be attending Columbus’ RG, Mind, Body and Soul, July 31 through August 2.  Hope to see you there!

Misty Richmond of Cincinnati Area Mensa has done a fabulous job maintaining the Region 3 website and I am delighted to report that she has agreed to continue doing so.  I hope you avail yourself of her efforts by visiting here.

Misty has created two e-lists for Region 3 members.  One is a Facebook group - Region 3 - American Mensa.  The other is a Yahoo group – AMR3.Region 3 American Mensa.  De Freshwater of Cleveland Area Mensa will be assisting Misty with the duties of confirming membership in and moderating these two groups.  I hope that you will use them to keep in touch with each other and to share ideas with each other and with me.

I will be posting my monthly column on all three sites in case your editor can’t find room to print it in its entirety or needs to edit it.

I have recently completed an online mediation training class.  I hope I never have to use the skills and knowledge I have gained from the class, but I am here to assist you if you need me.  In that regard, I hope all Region 3 groups have an ombudsman or mediator.  Insurance seems to be the best policy against travesty; no umbrella – rain; umbrella – no rain; ombudsman/mediator – no problems.

LLAP and Peace,

Betsy
