September 2003
Roaming the Region
by
(aka Gloater), RVC Region 3
The
2003 AG was a lot of fun, and I needed an extra bag to carry back most of Region
3’s Publications Recognition
Program (PRP) awards. My table at the awards ceremony looked like the
crystal palace. It was a thrill going up and accepting the awards, but I wish
the actual recipients could have been there to get their just rewards.

On the print side, Northern Michigan Mensa,
whose newsletter
Borealis hasn’t even finished Volume 1 yet, took two Special Recognition
awards and the Small Group Owl. Thanks go to Tom Kachadurian, Editor.
In addition, Dr. John Schultz won the Abbie Award for Proctor of the Year. Way
to go, Jack.
Western Pennsylvania Area Mensa won a
total of five awards for its newsletter, Phoenix, including the Large Group
Owl. Congratulations go to Alj Mary, Editor and Deborah Henry who won the award
for LocSec column.

Western Michigan Mensa’s
editor, Sara Youngman, won the Photography (Entertainment) award and the group
won honorable mention for the Prolific Owl.
The
only website winner in Region 3 was James Whitson of
Kentuckiana Mensa for
Reporting. At least he was there to accept it. Be sure to check out the
website and see just why he won. Congratulations, James.
I will be hand delivering all of these awards to the respective individuals
in the next 30 days as Michigan (I
caught the SEMMer Bash last month.) I just
finished my tour as RG Chair for the Columbus
RG 2003 and will be at the Rivers 3 RG
over Labor Day. I hope to meet a lot more of you then.
August 1st marks the start of a new ExComm for
Columbus Area Mensa. As I type this I am
not yet aware of who will be President, but I will attend their first meeting
next week and do some arm-twisting to have Columbus host the next Region 3
Leadership
Development Workshop (LDW) sometime after the first of the year. More on
that next month but start thinking about attending. Volunteers are especially
welcome.
