Cleveland RG Programs

After you start your day with the Funny Papers, what section do you read next?   

Travel?   Do the words Masi Mari, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire evoke images of zebras, giraffes and wildebeest? Do you have fantasies of flocks of flamingoes, hippos, and rhinos within your reach? Julie Petschler, safari expert, will be sharing her expertise from her numerous trips to Kenya, Tanzania, and South Africa.   

Health and Fitness?   Programs will include Tai Chi, yoga and nutritional advice.    

The Food Section?   Gail Bellamy, Ph.D.,CCP, author of Design Spirits and Victual Reality will delight your palate and provide insights into food and cultures through the ages.   An expert on culinary feats of magic, Gail has a program that will not only dazzle your mind, but your taste buds as well!   Gail has taught at Mississippi University for Women Culinary Arts Institute and is currently an adjunct at Ursuline College and Empire State College.  She is listed in the Who’s Who of American Women (2003) and Who’s Who in the World (2004).  In her spare time, Gail is a poet published in more than 60 magazines!

 In addition, we will have a wine tasting on Saturday afternoona quick and simple primer to educate your palate and your mind!    

Arts and Life?   The Slam Master, Michael Salinger, is bringing the Classic Cleveland Poetry Slam to the RG on Friday night. Whether you write poetry or just listen, this is the poetry you never heard in school but should have.  You can participate by reading original work not more than three minutes in length, being chosen as one of the five judges, or just enjoying the talent around you!  (What is a Poetry Slam?)

And, of course, Funny Papers:  We’ll have Cleveland’s resident Comic expert Alan Baltis, sharing his wit, wisdom and collection.   Alan will be speaking on matters of comedy, comic books and all things in between.  He's a dynamic speaker; be prepared to be entertained!

Solve mysteries a la Dick Tracy with George Dunn.

Literature?  We’ve got it!  Pat Fernberg, an officer of the International Jane Austen Society will present the “Humor in Jane Austen.”  Pat is full of amazing facts on the writings, personality and quirks of one of England’s most beloved writers.

Fantasy more your thing?  Denise Donaldson, Lord of the Rings expert, will have a lively discussion on the obvious and not so obvious meaning behind the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien.  Delve into the world of wizards, elves, dwarfs and man. 

Home Improvements?  Let Brian Moran of Kinetic Gardens teach you the best and easiest landscapes.  If you are pressed for time in the summer after attending RGs and the AG, Brian can help you design a garden that while low maintenance will instill envy in your neighbors!  Brian has had 5 of his gardens in Lakewood Garden Walk!

Crafts?  We offer classes in knitting, cross-stitch, and creative arts.  Bring something to work on if you want or we have some supplies to get you started.   Elizabeth Abbey will get your creative juices flowing.

Spirituality?  We have speakers from not-so-traditional to Eastern Religions.  Ever think of the Matrix in this context?  You will after listening to Sandra Bishop.
